St. Olaf College Dean of Students records
This collection contains the administrative papers of the St. Olaf College Dean of Students.
The Dean of Students office’s functions are to help students navigate student life, student services, and on-campus activities. The department is responsible for addressing student behavior and new student orientation. The Dean of Women office was established in 1915, the Dean of Men in 1917, and the Dean of Students in 1951. In 1984 the Dean of Students office absorbed the responsibilities of the Dean of Women and the Dean of Men. Those who held the positions of Dean of Women, Dean of Men, and Dean of Students included Gertrude Hilleboe, Henry Helgen, Carol V. Johnson and Associate Deans Ruth A. Bretheim and Matt Hecker.
This collection is arranged by the department’s progression from separate departments of Dean of Women and Dean of Men into the Dean of Students and from there, in chronological order.
