St. Olaf College Dean of Students records

US-MnNS-0065
This collection contains the administrative papers of the St. Olaf College Dean of Students.

The Dean of Students office’s functions were to help students navigate student life, student services, and on-campus activities. The department was responsible for addressing student behavior and new student orientation. The Dean of Students department at St. Olaf College initially began as two separate entities: Dean of Women and Dean of Men but eventually merged into the Department of Students in the 1970s. Those who held the office of dean included Gertrude Hilleboe, Henry Helgen, Carol V. Johnson and Associate Deans Ruth A. Bretheim and Matt Hecker.

This collection is arranged by the department’s progression from separate departments of Dean of Women and Dean of Men into the Dean of Students and from there, in chronological order.
