Thorbjorn N. Mohn presidential papers

The Thorbjorn N. Mohn presidential papers are composed of materials related to Thorbjorn N. Mohn's tenure as the first president of St. Olaf College. This collection includes letters, business correspondence, college documents, a school registry, letter books, account books, financial records, receipts, bank books, cancelled checks, construction bids, memorabilia, photographs, personal journals, speeches, sermons, church marriage licenses, report cards and student school notebooks.

Thorbjorn N. Mohn (1844-1899) was ordained in 1873 and called in 1875 as principal of St. Olaf's School and pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church. St. Olaf School opened its doors in 1875 as a preparatory school. Then in 1878 the school relocated to it's current campus in Northfield, Minnesota, and in 1889 the institution was named St. Olaf College and Mohn became its first President. 

The Thorbjorn N. Mohn Presidential papers collection includes letters, business correspondence, college documents, a school registry, letter books, account books, financial records, receipts, bank books, cancelled checks, construction bids, memorabilia, photographs, personal journals, speeches, sermons, church marriage licenses, report cards and student school notebooks related to Thorbjorn N. Mohn's tenure as St. Olaf College's first president. A large portion of this collection is composed of correspondence received and sent by Thorbjorn N. Mohn when he was president of St. Olaf College. A portion of the letters and documents within the collection are written in Norwegian, but many of them have been transcribed and translated to English. There are also seven volumes of Thorbjorn's letterbooks, which include transcribed copies of letters he sent from 1886-1899.

Along with the correspondence, there are materials related to St. Olaf College that include financial records, receipts, cancelled checks, and college documents. There are also student materials and memorabilia that include student notebooks, report cards, and a school registry.
