A metal plaque, painted dull green and off-white, in a rectangular shape with lettering that reads, "F. MELIUS | CHRISTIANSEN | 1871 - 1955 | COMPOSER, DIRECTOR, TEACHER | HIS ANTHEMS AND | HYMN SETTINGS | ENRICHED THE LUTHERAN | MUSIC TRADITION. | FOUNDER OF | THE ST.OLAF COLLEGE CHOIR. | HIS WORK | GAVE CHORAL MUSIC | A PLACE OF | PRE-EMINENCE IN AMERICA". The back is silver with "6752 | 24 | WEIDERSON [?]" handwritten in black. The plaque has a hole at the top and bottom.

There are two notes and a label with the plaque. One note, dated 1/5/78, reads, "PLAQUE HONORING F. MELIUS CHRISTIANSEN. | Placed on a pylon of the Protestant and | Orthodox Center at the New York World's | Fair of 1964/1965." According to The Manitou Messenger in 1964, "The late P. Melius Christiansen... is to be memorialized at the New York World's Fair...in the Court of Protestant Pioneers, which is a part of the Protestant Center at the Fair on approximately June 1. An engraved plaque with a description of Christiansen's contributions to church music will be placed with similar plaques describing contributions of other prominent pioneer figures from Protestant bodies in the United States..."
