A black graduation cap, or mortarboard, with a black tassel on top. Printed inside the cap is a maker's mark that reads, "INTERCOLLEGIATE BUREAU | 472 BROADWAY 474 [?] | COTRELL & LEONARD | ALBANY". In gold are the initials "B H". The skull cap rim shows some discoloration, and the board cloth exhibits small holes throughout.

This mortarboard was donated by the family of Clifton Hovland, a 1919 alum of Saint Olaf College. The graduation cap belonged to his sister, Bertha Hovland, who graduated from the College in 1917.
