This cap belonged to Mark Olson, a 1965 graduate of Saint Olaf College.

From 1909 to 1969, it was a tradition at the College for first-year students to wear "Frosh beanies" or freshman caps. This cap marked the subjection of the incoming class to the sophomore class, which oversaw and often dictated first-year students in particular tasks. The beanie would eventually be discarded, either at the discretion of the sophomore class or at Saint Olaf Welcomes All Freshmen Day (S.W.A.F. Day).
