A view camera made of wood and metal, likely mahogany and brass, with "Rochester Optical Co. | THE IDEAL" engraved on the front. "Rapid Rectilinear | 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 [?]" is engraved near the lens, which has a cap with a dark blue velvet interior. Small cracks are visible in the lens, and the wood and bellows exhibit light wear.

This camera belonged to Ole G. Felland, a former history professor and librarian at Saint Olaf College. After purchasing this camera in 1886, Felland created an extensive collection of photographs. His daughter and a 1923 graduate of the College, Nordis Felland, donated his camera in 1982.
